Pg 59, 60, 77, 83, 89
- In pages 59 and 60 is where Kino was attacked and it was also the event where he had killed someone from his town. He was thinking that people around him were always planning and trying to steal his pearl away from him so they would have his richness. He was becoming anxious and worrisome and very protective over the pearl. He was mostly in conflict with himself for thinking unnecessary thoughts and with people because he sees them as his enemies instead of his friends. He is having negative thoughts about the town and the place he lives in and the people he sees everyday. Kino was experiencing good fortune because of the pearl and what it could bring to this family but it’s also bringing hardship to his family because of his little arguments with Juana about the pearl. The author reveals a little change of personalities throughout the section but only with Kino.
- Pages 77 and 83 is when the caring side of Kino shows. It shows how much he cares for his family and that he would do anything for them to make their life better and for them to be sade. He feels that if they were all in danger it would be better if he was the one who would get hurt instead of them because he doesn't want to loose them in any circumstances and he doesn't want to take chances. He is kind of in conflict with Juana because Juana doesn't want him to be doing it alone because she wants to be there for him every step of the way and she wants to help him in any way possible. They are mostly experiencing hardship in this part because of the trackers and because of the setting of the story which they have to go through the day without any water for example. Even though Kino is changing he still cares about his family most and he would do anything for them.
- Everything changes in pg 89. Kino lost one of his family member. And thats when he realized that the pearl didn't bring anything good for him. It only brought bad luck towards his family. He was feeling very ashamed of himself because he let something control his mind and in this case it was the pearl. He was also upset and sad because he lost someone very special to him. They were experiencing hardship because of what happened to Coyotito. The author reveals his vulnerable side.
