• The characters in the book all believed that the pearl would change Kino's life in many ways. But some doubted the pearl and thought that it could bring out the worse in Kino because of his wealth. It explains the different thought if people in their neighbourhood.

2.  "Everyone knew why the doctor why the doctor had come. He was not good at dissembling and he was very well understood" -Pg 32

• Everyone in the neighbourhood knew what the doctor very well. They knew that the doctor helps only the rich people because he gets something in return. So when he heard about the pearl he treated Kino like one of his friends because he was rich. He changed personality for the wealth.

3. “Because they were happy and excited they thought everyone shared their joy” -Pg 23

• In this quote it describes how Kino and Juana saw things differently than what it reality was really like. They thought that everyone thought the same but when something good happens to another person which isn't them, they don’t realize that some people are jealous and upset that it didn’t happen to them.

4. “Kino felt all the warmth and security of his family behind him” -Pg 28

• This quote stood out to me because to me it defines KIno’s strength. According to Kino his family is his support system and that knowing that his family is behind them through everything makes him feel good. It builds and completes his character in the book because of how he cares for them.

5. “He could not take the chance of pitting his certain ignorance against this man’s possible knowledge” -Pg 30

• This quote shows how caring and thoughtful Kino is because he would set aside problems with the doctor in order for Coyotito to be better. Even though he doesn't trust the doctor he knows that the doctor will help them a lot and that he needs to trust him a little even though they had a rough past together.
