Beautiful Mood Maven
1.'' And like a shadow she glided towards the door.''
In this section of the pearl and mainly the whole book there is plenty of figurative language of all sorts from hyperbole, smiles, and metaphors to lots of personification. This example above is a simile. I chose a quote that contains figurative language since I find it really helps emphasize the mood and tone of the story, seeing as it usually is comparing something we cant see to something we know very well.
2. ''And he brought in a long working knife, eighteen inches long and heavy, as a small ax, a tool and a weapon.''
If the author had just said that Kino had a long knife we would not of had had the image in our head that the author really wanted us to have. By using language like this the author has also made us think about all the things the knife could be used for like being a tool, or a weapon.
3. ''Some ancient thing out of the past of his people was alive in him.''
This quote shows how Kino and his family have struggled through their whole lives it makes us use prior knowledge of ancient peoples and how many people were mistreated. We can relate things from our own lives to the story by the type of words the author chooses to use.
4. ''The coyotes cried and laughed in the brush, and the owls screeched and hissed over their heads.''
The author uses personification to show how scary the journey to the capital is. This sentence used by the author shows us the hardship and struggles that Kino and his family are going through and foreshadows that there is worse to come by creating a dramatic and dark setting and scenery.
5. ''And Kino thrust the pearl back into his clothing, and the music of the pearl has become sinister in his ears, and it was interwoven with music of evil.''
I can infer from this quote that the pearl is evil and can bring nothing good. It foreshadows for the bad and darkness that the pearl will later bring and tells us how Kino is now connected to the pearl as he thinks it is going to bring him success and fortune.
The only thing I can suggest is putting page numbers but this post was lovely! I love the detail and pictures! Great job!
